LTYD Youth Farm Program

The LTYD Youth Farm Program collaborates with the Mountain Pointe High School Garden Club and the Bridget Pettis Foundation to offer hands-on, engaging learning experiences that teach responsibility, teamwork, and essential life skills.

Students benefit both mentally and physically from being in nature while learning about healthy eating and community involvement. They also gain insights into food systems and develop leadership skills, positively influencing their personal growth and future opportunities.

2026 Youth Farm Planting Day ~ Friday, May 15, 2026 | Bridget Pettis Foundation | Spaces of Opportunity

Finding peace in the soil. On May 15th, our Mountain Pointe Garden Club spent a beautiful day practicing meditation through nature.

The students rolled up their sleeves to remove weeds, add fresh mulch, and plant sweet potatoes and okra. But the real magic happened in the quiet moments. Without the distraction of cell phones or the noise of the outside world, our youth truly got to experience and appreciate just how beautiful the environment is.

Moments like these remind us of the power of unplugging, grounding ourselves, and nurturing the earth. Way to grow, team!

2026 Youth Farm Planting Day ~ Tuesday, April 7, 2026 | Bridget Pettis Foundation | Spaces of Opportunity

Ten students from Mountain Pointe joined Ava, Aubrey, and Miss Charley for a fantastic day at the farm today! Ava taught us about lasagna gardening, also known as sheet mulching. We are trying this technique in our designated row and will monitor its progress over the next few months. After addressing the weeds, we added layers of cardboard, compost, and mulch, and then watered everything down before planting a few warm-weather crops. Despite the hot weather, the students maintained a positive attitude and thoroughly enjoyed the process.
